Axolotls in Minecraft are majestic creatures introduced to the game in the 1.17 Caves & Cliffs update. Their cute appearance and unique behaviour instantly made them a fan favourite.

These are beneficial creatures that can help you in your adventure. You can try feeding these creatures, which will reap numerous benefits.

Mojang has not designed Axolotls in Minecraft as hostile creatures, and they do not attack the player. However, they will help you out while battling hostile underwater creatures. If you defeat a mob under attack by an Axolotl, the player gains the regeneration status effect.

The mining fatigue effect will also be removed from the player if they have one. Considering their utility, you should try feeding these axolotls in Minecraft, as they can reap numerous benefits.

Firstly, this enables Axolotls in Minecraft to breed. As with any Minecraft mob, you must feed them before they start breeding.

When two axolotls are fed, they enter love mode, spawning a baby axolotl. This process is a fantastic way for players to build their collection of these creatures, which can be kept in aquariums or used for their utility in underwater exploration and combat.

Secondly, feeding axolotls helps in healing them. If an axolotl is injured, feeding it will restore its health, making it a handy companion during underwater battles or when navigating treacherous waters.

Note that Axolotls also lose health when kept out of water at least two blocks deep within 16 blocks of a path of water. Being out of water for more than five minutes will kill them. However, they do survive on land during rain and thunderstorms.

Feed Axolotls in Minecraft for various benefits

Players often wonder what these axelotls eat in Minecraft to heal and breed them. Axolotls eat tropical fish, which are found abundantly in ocean biomes. However, you cannot feed these creatures individual fishes from your inventory.

Instead, you will be required to use a bucket of tropical fish. Instead of using a fishing rod, make a bucket and click on a water block containing tropical fish to capture them.

These fishes can be pretty tricky to capture. Alternatively, you can buy a bucket from a Wandering Trader in exchange for one emerald.

Notably, no matter how much you feed Axolotls in Minecraft, you cannot tame them. However, you can pick them up, put them in a bucket, and rehome them in another body of water. You can also lure them with a lead. Just ensure not to kill them by keeping them out of water for too long.
