Dennis Schroder has a mean streak when it comes to basketball.
Dennis Schroder and Evan Fournier get into wild altercation ahead of the Olympics
Athletes in any sport go into matchups with a competitive spirit. Sometimes, that competition can go over the edge. Then, there are times when that edge goes a bit over the line. Former Los Angeles Lakers star Dennis Schroder and former Boston Celtics star Evan Fournier went over the line in a wild altercation during a friendly in preparation for the Olympics.
Dennis Schroder was driving to the basket with Fournier guarding him. Soon, the much bigger and taller Fournier snatched the ball away from the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard as he fell onto the court. Schroder got up and grabbed the Frenchman’s jersey beside the neck. In response, Fournier used both hands to choke the 6′ 1″ guard, which instantly caused his teammates to rush to his defense.
They both were separated instantly, but with both sides getting chippy, referees needed to calm things down. One of the ways they tried to do that was to bring Dennis Schroder and Evan Fournier together so that they could talk things out. After all, it was a friendly.
However, the conversations did not yield anything, as they ended up arguing with each other. Surprisingly, both were teammates for one season at the Boston Celtics. Therefore, Fournier knows what it is like to be around Schroder. They will meet again during the Olympics group clash on August 2nd.
Dennis Schroder’s MVP performance at the FIBA World Cup indicates his value in the NBA
Dennis Schroder was a 1st round pick because of his skills and his competitive edge. That edge led him to become an important part of playoff teams. The veteran guard can contribute immensely to any playoff team. Had the Lakers not traded for Russell Westbrook, Schroder might not have left.
But his value was such that the Boston Celtics jumped at the chance to sign him. All because NBA title contenders know his worth as a clutch performer. That clutch performance also netted him the MVP at the FIBA World Cup last year. In a stacked tournament with elite nations like the USA, Spain, Canada, and others, Schroder played a pivotal role in helping Germany become the world champions.
The German star makes all the right plays and knows how to lead a team. He has experience both with younger teammates and superstars. LeBron James always appreciates his former running mate’s game. As he knows how competitive Schroder can be. That competition will likely be on full display at the upcoming Olympics.
