Ferrari was rumored to be one of the best teams available for Adrian Newey to join in the coming season. The Italian constructor had also reportedly provided Newey with a whopping $105 Million deal. However, the Englishman was inclined towards joining Aston Martin. Hence, the 65-year-old revealed the reason behind a failed Ferrari move despite Lewis Hamilton‘s arrival in 2025.

Adrian Newey labeled the Aston Martin move as ‘natural’ amidst the huge benefits offered to him. Ferrari’s $105 Million deal wasn’t as attractive as Aston Martin’s $200 Million and other additional benefits as a stakeholder. Fred Vasseur had recently opened up and revealed the reason behind a failed contract between the two parties.

Adrian Newey noted that he decided to continue working in Formula 1 after a couple of months. Newey further pointed out that Ferrari was ‘surely’ one of the considerations. Subsequently, the Englishman claimed he wanted to work with Fernando Alonso as well as Lewis Hamilton. However, he couldn’t join both teams, and Aston Martin’s better offer as a partner attracted the aero-genius.

Once after a couple of months decided, yup, wanted to stay in Formula 1, Ferrari was surely one of the considerations. I made no secret of the fact that I wanted to work with Fernando and also with Lewis. Since both are with different teams, obviously couldn't fulfill both. Aston Martin provided the share holding and partnership.

Adrian Newey revealed Lawrence Stroll’s role in convincing him to join Aston Martin

Lawrence Stroll‘s persistent efforts to improve the team’s form after a Honda power unit signing was one of the major reasons behind Newey’s arrival. The latter claimed that Stroll was the only remaining example of the old-gen team owners. The Canadian businessman’s loyalty towards the ownership of the team was one of the major reasons for convincing Newey to join.

The fact that Lawrence Stoll is the last or the only one of that old model of team owners where you have an active team owner like Ron Dennis or Eddie Jordan or whoever, that was the model 20 years ago. Lawrence is the only owner of that model now.

As a result, Aston Martin will benefit from the great knowledge and skills of Newey in challenger design. The team might witness a massive shift in performance due to the regulation changes of 2026. The current Formula 1 era was dominated majorly by the chassis built under Newey’s brilliance with Red Bull.
