The Hungarian GP was extremely dramatic and interesting especially due to the Max Verstappen–Lewis Hamilton clash. The two legendary drivers showcased a great battle towards the end for scoring the podium finish. However, Verstappen collided with the Briton towards the end of the race and ended his podium dreams. Upon this, Alex Albon decided to take a neutral stance over the driver to be blamed for the incident.
Max Verstappen‘s collision with Lewis Hamilton had divided the fans into two different halves. Verstappen wasn’t penalized over the incident as stewards labeled it as a racing incident. Alex Albon noted that he was aware of the two being so close to each other. However, it was surprising even for the Thai-British driver to witness them being extremely close and even colliding with one another.
[I knew] they were close to each other, but I didn't realise they'd be that close to each other, and didn't realise it would be overtaking close!Alex Albon said, as reported by autosport.com.
Regardless, Albon refused to side with a specific driver over the fault for the incident. The 28-year-old noted that both Verstappen and Hamilton were ‘very aggressive’ on their respective moves. The Williams driver noted that the Dutchman was aggressive with the ‘late move’. Meanwhile, there was some ‘squeezing element’ showcased by Lewis Hamilton.
Both aggressive: Max being aggressive on his move and then, at the same time, I do think there was an element of squeezing.Alex Albon added
Alex Albon claims the stewards made the ‘right call’ over the incident
Multiple people believed that Max Verstappen was to blame for the incident due to the risky move. However, the FIA stewards made the final call after investigating the incident and left the Dutchman scott-free. Hence, Albon sided with the stewards over making the correct decision and not making a big deal out of it.
Alex Albon claimed that the situation was ‘pretty close’ despite the Stewards making the right call over the ‘racing incident’.
But it was all pretty close. I think the call in the end was the right one from the stewards. I think it was a racing incident. I mean, when they're together, when is it not?Alex Albon concluded
The competition in the entirety of the ground-effect era is at an all-time high as Red Bull faces tough competition. Milton Keynes has been ousted from the top spot in terms of performance by McLaren mid-way through the 2024 season. Hence, the Austrian constructor will have to work extremely hard with Max Verstappen to continue to fend off the rivals.
