Lando Norris is in contention for the F1 world championship for the first time in his career. The McLaren driver is up against reigning world champion Max Verstappen. Unsurprisingly, this fight has created controversies. However, McLaren team boss Andrea Stella has tried to keep Norris away from media speculation.

Stella insisted that the Mexican GP was a positive day for Norris and McLaren. As the 24-year-old defeated Max Verstappen. However, the Italian pointed out that hard racing often requires authority to intervene, as was the case with Verstappen’s two 10-second penalties.

In this sense, I think this is a positive day because it has proven that it’s good to race hard, but it can’t be resolved on track by the two drivers. It needs a third party. It needs the authority.

At the start of the Mexican GP, Norris found himself right behind Verstappen as the two battled it out for the podium spot. The message we gave to Lando was, ‘We have pace. If we can pass him, let’s do it. Even when you engage in these kinds of battles, you need to think both things. We need to finish races… we didn’t need to repeat to Lando.

Andrea Stella explained

Certainly, McLaren and Lando Norris have gained confidence from the Mexican GP. However, it is far from over for the 24-year-old. Norris must outperform Max Verstappen in all of the last four races to win the title. As such, fans can expect more exciting battles in the remainder of the season.
