The Mercedes F1 team has been on a roll since the last few races! The outfit has amassed back-to-back victories and after Lewis Hamilton‘s triumph at last week’s British GP, the head of trackside engineering, Andrew Shovlin has applauded the whole team.
George Russell scored Mercedes’ first win of the 2024 F1 season in Austria. Following this, the team had high hopes in Silverstone, and to their surprise as well as that of rival teams, the W15 proved extremely competitive during the 52-lap race.
Despite being put under pressure by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton was able to win the British GP.
Of course it’s disappointing not to have George on the podium, but two wins in a row is fantastic. There’s a lot of energy in the team at the moment. We’ve been working hard for months, but now you can start to see the fruits of that work.Andrew Shovlin via Mercedes Debrief
Shovlin has emphasized the immense work the Brackley-based team has put in over the last few months. Mercedes started the ongoing campaign on the back foot, but since the upgrades at the Monaco GP, the team has been following an impressive upward trajectory.
Mercedes pleased with W15’s performance in a ‘wide range of corners’
The ground effect era has not proved kind to Mercedes since 2022. However, with the improved performance of the W15, Andrew Shovlin is pleased with how the car is performing on the wide variety of corners around race tracks.
In line with this, Shovlin has admitted that Mercedes’ challenger had no weakness in Silverstone!
The most encouraging thing is to see how well the car now performs in a wide range of corner types. At Silverstone it really had no weaknesses and you could see how much the drivers were enjoying driving a car they could trust.Andrew Shovlin said in the same interview
Mercedes has so far amassed 221 points in the Constructors Championship. McLaren is ahead of them in third place with 295. Ferrari is also not too far ahead and considering this, the remaining 12 rounds of the 2024 F1 season are going to be must-see events.
