Carlos Sainz will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next season. The Spanish driver’s future remains uncertain in Formula 1. However, Sainz’s recent rise in form has brought him under the radar of multiple teams. Now, former F1 driver Anthony Davidson has suggested that the 29-year-old could be the right fit for Audi.

Audi will enter Formula 1 in 2026 after a complete takeover of Sauber. The German carmaker is rumored to be targeting Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg for its driver lineup. The auto giant reportedly gave Sainz a two-week ultimatum to take up its offer to join Sauber ahead of its takeover.

I assume it will happen. I just think it is a great place for an experienced and professional driver like him to help grow a new team.

Anthony Davidson said, as reported by FormulaPassion.it

Davidson mentioned that the Swiss team would still have Sauber’s spirit. However, Audi and the new recruits would want to leave a mark on the pinnacle of motorsport. Subsequently, Carlos Sainz would be a brilliant option to provide guidance to the German carmaker. The Briton claimed that Audi had been too optimistic with its F1 targets.

It’s always Sauber, of course, but there will be new people within the team who want to leave their mark on Formula 1, and I think he will be a brilliant pilot to help guide and measure aspirations – maybe even a little ’ too optimistic – in some moments.

Anthony Davidson praises Carlos Sainz’s authoritative personality

Carlos Sainz has raced for Scuderia Ferrari since 2021. The 29-year-old has managed to deliver decent results for Maranello despite facing trouble on a few occassions. Anthony Davidson highlighted that Sainz was an authoritative driver who had managed to turn things around even when his team’s strategy had faltered in the past.

When sometimes the strategy falters a little. he is always there to bring everything back and keep his feet on the ground. I see him as a reference figure, a pilot who speaks with authority.

The Briton reckoned that it would not be surprising to see Sainz race for Audi in the coming years. Sauber CEO Andreas Seidl was the McLaren Team Principal during Carlos Sainz’s stint at the Woking-based team. This could further enable a smooth switch for the Spaniard to the Hinwil-based squad.

Carlos Sainz is yet to make a decision on his future. The 29-year-old has sped up the process of negotiations recently. However, it seems that Audi might be the best bet for the Spanish driver, albeit as a long-term project. Nevertheless, fans would be waiting to hear from Sainz’s about his future in the pinnacle of motorsport.
