Fernando Alonso is regarded as one of the most unlucky drivers in Formula 1. Despite being considered by many as an all-time great, the Spaniard has failed to achieve the success he deserved. Now, Aston Martin’s latest shake-up might be another bad sign for the two-time world champion.
Aston Martin Technical Director Dan Fallows resigned from his position. The former Red Bull engineer will shift towards non-F1 activities within the group. This came as a major shock to many, as Fallows was believed to be one of the first big name signings by Lawrence Stroll.
On the surface, things might seem fine at Silverstone. Aero genius Adrian Newey will be joining the team next season in a major leadership shake-up. However, Fallows’ peculiar exit paints a bad picture for Fernando Alonso‘s future.

The two-time world champion is 43 years old. No matter how good Alonso is on-track, he can realistically only race for a couple more seasons. Thus, the Spaniard needs Aston Martin to be in full-swing without any off-track distractions. However, Fallows’ resignation hints at managerial instability.
Perhaps, the Silverstone-based team needed to make way for Newey. Yet, the aero genius will not join Aston Martin for months, leaving the British team in an awkward spot. Dan Fallows‘ exit might have happened due to the team’s lackluster results. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have struggled to score points on a regular basis.
Alonso wants to win a third F1 world title. The Spanish driver is banking on the 2026 rule change for having a chance at the championship. Unfortunately, this would not be possible if Aston Martin fails to get its house in order within the next few weeks. The British team needs to be in a stable state internally to allow Adrian Newey to work his magic.
The coming months will be crucial for Lawrence Stroll’s team. Aston Martin will need to show concrete progress to Stroll as well as Fernando Alonso. The two-time world champion does not hesitate from expressing his opinion in the press which could make things worse within Silverstone. Thus, it remains to be seen how things shape up at the British team in the short term.
