Lewis Hamilton has become a potential contender for the 2025 F1 title following his switch to Scuderia Ferrari. However, the grid is expected to be incredible close this season. Now, former F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone has snubbed the seven-time world champion to name the driver he thinks can win the championship.

Ecclestone hasn’t been the biggest fan of Hamilton’s decision to move to Ferrari. The 94-year-old previously claimed that the Briton won’t last even two years at Maranello. The English billionaire has also slammed the F1 star’s bold fashion choices within the paddock.

Bernie Ecclestone declared that he thinks Max Verstappen will go on to the win his fifth title in a row this year. So much so, that the former F1 boss couldn’t see any reason why Verstappen might lose the championship despite the fierce competition from the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari.

I still think Max will win [the title], there’s no reason why he shouldn’t.

Bernie Ecclestone told Reuters

No ‘discussion’ over Max Verstappen’s 2025 title prospects

The 94-year-old was quite confident over Verstappen bagging another championship. Bernie Ecclestone insisted that if Red Bull has a good car this season, the reigning world champion will definitely claim the title yet again. He reckoned that in such a situation, there was no need to even discuss the title fight in the first place.

If he’s got the equipment, obviously there’d be no discussion about him. It would be a definite.

Bernie Ecclestone explained

It seems Ecclestone is ready to rule out all drivers including Lewis Hamilton, if Red Bull has a good car this season. However, Max Verstappen has not seemed extremely confident over the RB21’s pace just yet. As such, fans might witness a closer fight at the front of the grid in the coming weeks compared to the prediction made by the 94-year-old.
