Carlos Sainz will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next season. When the Scuderia announced this move, it caught Spaniard off-guard as he hoped to secure his long-term future at Maranello. Now, it seems that the pressure over career uncertainty has got to the 29-year-old.
Sainz was involved in not one but two different incidents during his home race in Barcelona. The Spanish driver first made contact with teammate Charles Leclerc, before almost colliding with Lewis Hamilton. Carlos Sainz even lashed out on the FIA after he was informed that Hamilton was not given a penalty for the incident.
After the race, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc seemed to have started a war of words. Leclerc was unhappy by his teammate’s aggressive move allegedly against the team’s pre-race agreement. While Sainz could not understand why the Monegasque driver was ‘complaining.‘ One could argue that Carlos Sainz’s fallout with Charles Leclerc at Spanish GP showed a frustrated man.
Carlos Sainz might be cracking under pressure over future in F1
Sainz seemed to be the top driver in the F1 driver market after Hamilton’s Ferrari announcement. The Spanish driver even won the Australian GP to solidify his worth. However, things have not gone well for the 29-year-old as both Red Bull and Mercedes closed their doors.
This left Carlos Sainz with teams in the lower half of the pecking order. Audi seemed to be the best option as the German carmaker reportedly offered a massive offer to Sainz. However, Williams is rumored to be the ideal option for the Spaniard at this moment.
It is no surprise that the 29-year-old would not have imagined going back to the lower half of the grid after spending multiple seasons with Ferrari. This could have taken a toll on Sainz mentally as he struggles to find a good path for his future. As such, the Spanish driver’s frustration became visible after his on-track incidents with his current teammate and the driver who will replace him next season.
Nevertheless, Carlos Sainz still has time to decide on his future. The Spanish driver has made it clear that he will be making his decision soon. However, there are no doubts that the 29-year-old’s situation is far from ideal. Certainly, fans would be hoping that Sainz could continue to showcase his talent in F1 next season wherever he goes.
