During the qualifying at the Shanghai circuit, Carlos Sainz spun in Q2 and caused a red flag. The Spanish driver ended up in the barriers, however, his presence of mind saved the day and he was able to get control over things in no time.

After Sainz realized what was happening right before the collision, he made sure to crash at a particular angle which helped him to save his SF-24 from sustaining direct damage. Despite going through an emotional rollercoaster ride during those couple of seconds, Carlos Sainz was later able to have a good lap during Q3.

While talking about his experience after the event, Sainz had the following to say.

FS Video
Not easy at all [to regain composure after the crash]. I had a big moment there. Obviously, right in the last moment, I was able to crash in the right angle. I turned the wheel a bit to make sure I didn't crash straight with the rear tyre, and a bit more sideways. This probably saved the day, and from there a high heart rate and adrenaline, but was able to do a good lap later in Q2, and recover well from that moment.

This peculiar incident gives an insight into the Spaniard’s intelligence. He is one the most sought-after drivers in the driver market. Many teams have set their eyes on this Spaniard and have made brilliant offers to him as well, now where he ends up for next year, only time will tell.

Fernando Alonso penalized for sprint race incident with Carlos Sainz

Fernando Alonso was penalized for a collision with Carlos Sainz during the Chinese Grand Prix sprint, resulting in three penalty points and a ten-second time penalty. Sainz passed Alonso, who was holding third place, but the latter’s late-braking move going into Turn 9 caused contact with Sainz, which led both drivers to lose a spot.

Alonso’s race was prematurely ended with a front-right puncture.

As per the guidelines on driving standards, which was agreed with the teams, an infringement of this nature required that a baseline penalty of 10 seconds was to be added to the time of a car that caused a collision. We accordingly added 10 seconds to the elapsed time of Car 14.
verdict of the stewards as reported by Racingnews365

After reviewing the incident carefully the FIA Stewards gave a penalty to Alonso. However, what’s done is done, and Fernando Alonso needs to focus on what’s coming his way. After securing a brilliant third-place starting position for tomorrow’s race, he will look to outperform the Ferrari and McLaren drivers to secure a spot on the Chinese GP podium.
