Carlos Sainz will be shown the door by Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will replace the Spaniard at Maranello. Since the announcement of this move, Sainz’s future in F1 remains uncertain. However, rumors surfaced that the 29-year-old had already signed a deal with Williams. Now, Sainz has finally addressed such speculation.
The Spanish driver made it clear that his future was not locked in so far. Carlos Sainz recalled seeing articles online where reports claimed that he had signed a deal with Williams already for 2025. However, the 29-year-old joked that he had seem similar reports about signing with Mercedes or Red Bull just three months ago.
The only thing I can tell you is there is nothing locked in. I’ve seen reports of people saying I’ve signed. It makes me laugh because I remember seeing reports 3 months ago that I had signed for Mercedes, reports that I had signed for Red Bull.Carlos Sainz said, as reported by The-Race
Carlos Sainz affirmed that a move to Mercedes or Red Bull was not going to happen. The Spaniard claimed that such speculation did make him laugh. However, Sainz emphasized that it was concerning to see people go unpunished for writing such inaccurate information.
Now obviously those places are not going to happen. So, it's funny, now people are saying I've signed for Williams. It makes me laugh but sometimes this goes a bit unpunished in a way. It concerns me that people can get away with that kind of stuff.Carlos Sainz explained
Carlos Sainz not willing to sign a one-year deal
Carlos Sainz joined Ferrari in 2021. The 29-year-old matched teammate Charles Leclerc throughout his tenure at Maranello. However, the Spaniard seems to have only Williams and Audi as prospective options for 2025.
Sainz highlighted that to be successful in F1, a driver must have a medium or long-term contract. The Spanish driver claimed that a one-year deal would never allow someone to truly be successful at the pinnacle of motorsport.
I'm still a firm believer that in Formula 1 to be successful, you need a medium-to-long-term project. I don't think you're ever going to be successful in Formula 1 to go one year somewhere to win, and then leave.Carlos Sainz affirmed
Certainly, Carlos Sainz is running out of time to decide on his future in Formula 1. The 29-year-old might want to join Williams as a safer bet than Audi due to the Grove-based team’s Mercedes connection. However, undoubtedly Sainz will have a tough couple of seasons before fighting at the front of the grid again.
