Max Verstappen and George Russell have exchanged heated comments since last weekend’s Qatar GP. Verstappen accused the Briton of exaggerating claims in front of the stewards to ensure he gets a penalty. Now, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has come out in defense of the Dutch driver,

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff recently stated that he feels Red Bull goes too soft with Max Verstappen. George Russell had hit out at the four-time world champion for disrespecting him in the press. While Verstappen remained firm on his stance.

First of all, Max does nothing but tell the truth. So, I believe 100% what he said to be accurate. Of course, there was other people in the Stewards .room as well, and they also came back and reported that they were quite surprised at the… if you like, the approach that was taken.

Christian Horner not taking the ‘bait’ over Max Verstappen saga

The Red Bull boss refused to fall into Toto Wolff’s trap over claims of being too soft to Max Verstappen. Christian Horner mentioned that Milton Keynes had its own approach for its drivers, which was visible with the Austrian team’s 14 world titles. This includes Verstappen’s four consecutive championships.

Regarding Toto’s other comments, I am not going to raise to the bate of that. Everybody manages themselves and their team in different ways. We have won 122 races, we’ve won 14 World Championships, and I think we are doing alright.

Christian Horner stated

It seems that Red Bull and Mercedes will continue this war of words for the coming days. Both Verstappen and Russell are not holding back from publicly attacking one another. It remains to be seen how the situation evolves over the course of the Abu Dhabi GP weekend.
