Carlos Sainz was left without a seat for 2025 after Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton. The Spanish driver engaged in discussions with various teams, ultimately settling at Williams. Now, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has hinted at a possibility to work with the 30-year-old in the future.

Sainz was hoping to potentially sign with Red Bull for this season in place of Sergio Perez. Though, Milton Keynes decided to promote Liam Lawson from VCARB instead. The Spanish driver had claimed that he perhaps didn’t suit as per plans of the Austrian team.

Carlos is a great driver, and options still remain open with him in the future. He was considered.

Horner highlighted that there was logic to potentially signing Sainz alongside Max Verstappen. However, Red Bull opted to focus on its junior talent and promote Liam Lawson. This showed Milton Keynes’ faith in its young drivers. Carlos Sainz used to be part of the Red Bull driver pool before moving to Renault in the latter half of 2017.

In many respects, you’d say there was a real logic [to signing] Carlos, but we made the choice to look internally and put belief in the junior program.

Sainz will now focus on his stint at Williams Racing. The 30-year-old wants to bring the iconic team back to the front of the grid. However, this would likely be a long-drawn process with patience being a key requirement. Nevertheless, Carlos Sainz would certainly be willing to discuss a future with Red Bull when the situation arises.
