Adrian Newey deemed his shocking exit from Red Bull mid-way through the 2024 season. The aerogenius is set to take all his technical brilliance to Aston Martin in the upcoming season. Newey felt a sense of ‘inexperience’ at the Australian constructor which caused him to jump ship. Now, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has responded sternly to the Briton’s comments.
Adrian Newey had previously claimed that Red Bull’s lack of experience was the main reason behind the extreme performance struggles. Christian Horner waged his opinions over Newey’s bold remarks on the team’s struggles. Horner highlighted that the performance issues were deeper than just the 2024 season. The Englishman believed that the issues started to become evident from the 2023 season.
I haven’t seen those comments, but I think the issues are more deep-rooted than just last year. I think that they’d actually start… when you really dig into the data and some of the characteristics, you start to see them much earlier than that. Certainly during 2023.
Christian Horner told Auto Motor und Sport.
Horner insisted that the performance struggles needed to be understood by the team first before trying to fix them. The team implemented multiple fixes on the RB20 in hopes of a revival of pace, but in vain. Regardless, the 51-year-old raised confidence in Milton Keynes’ understanding of the issues and fixing them for the upcoming season.
It was a matter of unravelling it to understand what were the contributing factors to having a very peaky performance. The team have worked very hard to understand that and address it.
Christian Horner added.
Christian Horner asserts Red Bull working ‘incredibly hard’ to fix the issues
Red Bull worked hard over the winter break to address the underlying issues in the RB20 chassis. The team has introduced several changes to the RB21 challenger in hopes of improving performance. Christian Horner claims that Milton Keynes had a ‘good winter’ in terms of pace improvement. The 51-year-old emphasized that the results from pre-season testing would indicate whether the team has successfully resolved its issues.

We’ve had a good winter. The team has been working incredibly hard. We’ll get the first sort of indication next week as to whether we’ve managed to address some of the issues.
Christian Horner noted.
The 2025 season will be extremely crucial for Red Bull as Max Verstappen fights for his fifth consecutive championship win. Milton Keynes must find massive improvement on their 2024 pace in order to contend for both championships this season. Time will tell if the Austrian constructor’s hard work on improving the issues turns out successful or not.
