Max Verstappen and Red Bull have lost the ‘favorites’ tag for the 2024 F1 world championship. The reigning world champions have fallen behind Lando Norris and McLaren in the second half of the season. However, team boss Christian Horner has insisted that Milton Keynes will be working round the clock to win the title.
Lando Norris trails behind Verstappen by 52 points with six races to go. The reigning world champion has failed to win a race for the past several races. Although, Christian Horner pointed out that Red Bull showed better pace in Baku and Singapore.
Nevertheless, Horner admitted that the team would be working long hours at Milton Keynes to extract more pace out of the RB20 for the remainder of the season. The Red Bull team boss asserted that Red Bull needs to match Norris and McLaren on traditional circuits if they want to secure Max Verstappen‘s fourth title.
Christian Horner claims Red Bull has the capacity to match ‘benchmark’ McLaren
Horner highlighted that Lando Norris and McLaren are undoubtedly the current benchmark. Red Bull needs to bridge the gap to the Woking-based team in the next couple of races. Christian Horner was convinced that Verstappen and Red Bull have the capacity to match their title rivals. Moreover, the Red Bull boss hinted that the team will be making tweaks to the car for the US GP.
Certainly, Red Bull is going to push itself to the limit in terms of in-season upgrades for the last six races. Verstappen is in prime position to win the title courtesy of his large lead over Norris. However, things could change quickly if the Dutch driver has one DNF. As such, it remains to be seen how things pan out in this exciting title fight.
