The Dutch GP scenario repeated in Singapore as Lando Norris finished 20 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen (P2) once again. Despite this being one of Verstappen’s better performances compared to his recent outings, Red Bull still faces a 41-point deficit in the constructors’ standings. Norris’s win also reduced the Dutchman’s lead by 52 points with six rounds remaining to wrap the season. However, team principal Christian Horner didn’t anticipate a podium finish until Friday.
Christian Horner was extremely happy with the result, especially since he expected a much tougher weekend in Singapore. Red Bull have gone through a rough patch recently so a podium was never expected by Horner. He explained that if someone had told them on Friday they’d end up with P2, Red Bull would have been thrilled. His phrase “bitten your arm off” was just a humorous way of being happy to accept the result.
If you'd offered that to us on Friday, we'd have bitten your arm off for it, so a good turnaround.Christian Horner said, as reported by Viaplay
Horner congratulated Lando Norris and McLaren on their victory. He admitted they were simply too fast, as in previous races, due to McLaren’s rapid car. The Briton also praised Max Verstappen for driving skillfully despite dealing with car issues. He stated that the Dutchman did everything possible to secure a good result. Although Verstappen couldn’t catch Norris, he was able to manage a faster pace than the rest of the field.
Congrats to Lando [Norris] and McLaren, he was just simply too fast today, but Max [Verstappen] has done everything he can. He had the rest of the field covered.Christian Horner stated.
Things ‘constantly under view’ ahead of Daniel Ricciardo’s uncertain future
Daniel Ricciardo was brought into the pits for soft tires during the latter stages of the Marina Bay race, it was done to take the fastest-lap points away from Norris. However, this might not be enough to secure his position as Horner confirmed RB’s driver lineup is under view. The 50-year-old acknowledged Ricciardo’s importance to the team and his contributions to Red Bull. He highlighted that Ricciardo has been with the organization for 18 years, starting as a junior driver.
These things are constantly under review. Daniel [Ricciardo], he's been an important part…, he's been with Red Bull for almost 18 years, since he first started as a junior.Christian Horner explained.
The Australian had a strong final lap, which aided his former teammate Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship. Despite this support, Ricciardo’s future remains uncertain, as Red Bull will evaluate everything that occurred in Singapore. An announcement is likely to be made before or during the US GP.
