Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has had a shocker of a 2024 F1 season. The campaign is 20 rounds down and Perez has managed to amass only 150 points. In line with this, his latest failure came at the recent Brazilian GP Sprint qualifying session, following which, the Red Bull boss Christian Horner made a brutal remark.

Sergio Perez had high hopes of putting his RB20 in the top five for the Inerlagos Sprint race. However, he was only able to manage an utterly disappointing SQ2 exit with the lights of Nico Hulkenberg and Lewis Hamilton.

Christian Horner was disappointed with his driver’s performance and thus, had the following to stay in the post Sprint qualifying interviews.

We’ve changed his chassis this weekend. It’s an older chassis, that we’ve put him into just to give him that extra boost of confidence. Sergio is a seasoned campaigner. He’s been around long enough that he knows this is a results-based business. He knows that this season has been under-par for him.

Horner via his comments, has shot an indirect warning toward the six-time Grand Prix winner. Perez has been nowhere near the level of his teammate and it is mainly because of him that Red Bull has fallen to third place in the 2024 Constructors Championship.

Red Bull has been ‘off the pace’ at the Interlagos racing circuit

While Sergio Perez has been having a torrid time in F1 this year, Max Verstappen also had his struggles in the Interlagos Sprint qualifying. Because of the issues within the RB20, Verstappen was only able to manage a P4 finish.

After the session, he felt that his challenger was not at par with the lights of McLaren and Ferrari.

As soon as we went into qualifying, it looked like we were definitely off the pace.

The 2024 F1 season has proved to be extremely up and down for both the Red Bull drivers. However, Verstappen has still managed to churn out results whereas Perez has not been able to do so.

The reigning world champion has amassed seven Grand Prix wins whereas Perez is yet to score one this year. The ongoing weekend plus the remaining three races weekends, hold immense importance for the latter as far as racing in F1 goes. There is a very real possibility of him getting replaced for the 2025 F1 season despite already having a contract.
