The saga between Max Verstappen and George Russell has transcended into a full-fledged fight between Mercedes and Red Bull. Their respective team principals Toto Wolff and Christian Horner have been having a go at each other, and the Briton has responded to his rival’s terrier remark while playing the war of words.
The paddock has been encapsulated in the ongoing fight between Max Verstappen and George Russell, as the minor altercation in Qatar escalated into a full-scale verbal fight between the duo. This further led to their team principals getting in on the action and firing shots. Red Bull boss Christian Horner was the first one to hurl words at Russell in the aftermath of the race in Qatar.
This demanded a reaction from the Mercedes camp, which led Toto Wolff to assert that Horner was nothing but a ‘yapping little terrier‘. However, this statement did not go unnoticed by the 51-year-old and he continued the mind games saga.
Christian Horner is asked in the FIA presser about Wolff's "yapping little terrier" comment from yesterday:

"To be called a terrier, is that such a bad thing? They’re not afraid to have a go at the bigger dogs. I’d rather be a terrier than a wolf, maybe."#F1 #AbuDhabiGP
On the other hand, the altercation between the two drivers has left multiple people in the paddock wondering. Anyhow, Russell and Verstappen don’t seem too keen on saving any bridges among each other following their Qatar GP fallout.
Christian Horner’s explanation for remarks against George Russell
Though Horner was quick to make a comeback on Wolff’s remarks, his case was not left in a great position owing to the remarks he made in Qatar for Russell. Subsequently, this urged him to clarify the reason why he used such peculiar wordings to describe the 26-year-old’s actions in the Lusail steward’s room.
The 51-year-old then elucidated his statements on Russell and admitted that he would have been penalized for using the same language to explain the incident later on.
However, despite Mercedes and Red Bull standing fourth and third respectively in the constructors’ standings, this fight would not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Both outfits are expected to stay in the same positions by the end of the weekend in Abu Dhabi.
In light of this, Red Bull would be looking to maximize their results in the ongoing Abu Dhabi weekend as Verstappen would want to end the season on a high. Qualifying for the main race around the Yas Marina Circuit will take place tomorrow after Free Practice 3.
