Ex-F1 champion credits Max Verstappen’s ‘brilliance’ for Red Bull’s victories in 2024

Former F1 world champion Damon Hill was impressed on how Max Verstappen has been pulling the races in 2024 and handling pressure in difficult situations. Hill appreciated Verstappen’s calm and composed attitude while not getting the lead at the start of the race. The Briton believes this ability to stay calm under pressure is crucial for any race driver.

Hill explained how Red Bull’s victories depended a lot on Verstappen’s exceptional skills and his ability to stay calm under pressure. The Dutch driver managed to keep his cool and not panic while trailing behind George Russell. This allowed Max Verstappen to bounce back and take the lead over the course of the race.

There're a good couple of races this year, where the win for Red Bull has come down to Max's brilliance and his ability to keep calm and pressure. I was very impressed with the way he didn't get freaked out when he didn't get the jump at the start.

Damon Hill claims Max Verstappen sounds ‘relaxed’ on team radio

The 63-year-old observed how Verstappen calmly explained the issues he faced with the car over the team radio. Despite struggling to use the curbs effectively, the reigning world champion maintained a relaxed behavior when communicating with the Red Bull pit wall.

Even though he's complaining about problems with the car, you know, he can't touch the curbs. He sounds always on the radio to be pretty relaxed.

Hill reckoned that having such an approach was crucial in racing because it showed that the driver could handle problems without getting too stressed. Max Verstappen does have these qualities, helping him stay focused on driving fast and making good decisions during races.

Certainly, Damon Hill shared his appreciation for Max Verstappen’s nature in the RB20 cockpit. It is no surprise that the Dutch driver has dominated the sport in recent years due to such a mindset.
