Carlos Sainz was unexpectedly ousted from Ferrari to make way for Lewis Hamilton from 2025 onwards. The Spaniard didn’t lose hope and continued to score great results in the hope of landing a top seat. However, the 29-year-old is currently without a driver from 2025 onwards and has to take a decision quickly. Upon this, the Ex-F1 driver, David Coulthard has suggested a weird route for Sainz for the coming seasons.
Carlos Sainz has been the prime candidate for multiple teams in the past few months. The Spaniard was considered for Audi only if he would join the Stake F1 team for the 2025 season. Additionally, he is considered for Alpine after Flavio Briatore‘s arrival. However, David Coulthard believes none of these options are the best for Sainz in the coming season.
Coulthard believed that Carlos Sainz would be better at Ferrari only. Sainz would have to be the reserve driver for the next two years that Lewis Hamilton drives for the team. The reason for this was that the Scotsman believed Hamilton wouldn’t continue a third year with Scuderia in the coming seasons.
Williams said they wanted him, Audi would obviously want him alongside Nico Hülkenberg, but in reality I think Carlos would do better to say to Ferrari: ‘ Ok, I will be your reserve driver for the next two years,’ because you can imagine that Lewis won’t be a third year old [in Ferrari]

David Coulthard claims Carlos Sainz would receive a ‘developed car’ from Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton would form a formidable pair at Ferrari from the coming season onwards. Hence, both drivers would take Maranello to great heights and enable solid chassis development in those years. As a result, David Coulthard claimed that Sainz would be better of to take a two-year break and join Maranello to receive a developed chassis from the input of Leclerc and Hamilton.
He would have two years off to keep fit, take a little mental break from F1 and then, at 32, he could arrive with a car developed together with Lewis and Charles and regain control.David Coulthard added.
Apart from this, Coulthard further raised questions over the other options that Carlos Sainz had available.
David Coulthard: Could give him world championships. Can he get a world championships at Alipine in the next three years? Can he get that at Williams in the next three years. Can he at Audi in the next three years?
Eddie Jordan: You would say no!

Sainz has continued to showcase the best possible results without worrying much about the benefits. The 29-year-old hasn’t given up on his dreams to continue racing in Formula 1 and scoring better results. However, a majority of the teams have already confirmed their lineup with many more of them aiming to retain their current drivers. As a result, the Spaniard will have to take a decision soon.
