Sergio Perez has been struggling to perform for Red Bull since May of this year. Perez at the beginning of the season was just behind teammate Max Verstappen, securing possible podiums. However, there was a drastic fall in his performance since the Emilia Romagna GP. The recent Belgian GP was another bad run for the Mexican as he secured seventh position despite qualifying third. This race could’ve been his last with Red Bull, but Milton Keynes decided to keep him. Former F1 driver David Coulthard still believes Checo can win a race this season.
David Coulthard believed the six-time Grand Prix winner Sergio Perez can still win races. Coulthard believes in the abilities and potential Perez holds, the 34-year-old has enough experience in racing and this setback doesn’t prove that he’s not a worthy driver. The 53-year-old reckoned the Mexican can be one of the winners among the seven GP winners this season. This could only happen if Checo manages to improve his performance in the last 10 rounds of the season.
Of course it's possible.David Coulthard told RacingNews365
David Coulthard believed that if Perez gets back to his old form, there will be no reason he can’t win races again. The Mexican’s skills demonstrate that he has everything it takes to win the race. Therefore, Coulthard is rooting for Perez to perform in the second phase of the season.
Checo [Sergio Perez] has been off-form of late, but he's a grand prix winner, and if he rediscovers form, then why can't he win again.David Coulthard added.
David Coulthard claims the 2024 season will have more new winners
David Coulthard believed there could be more new race winners in the 2024 Formula 1 season. He thought some drivers might get a lucky break and win a race. Unexpected situations arose early in 2024, with George Russell winning the Austrian GP after Max Verstappen and Lando Norris collided during the race. Additionally, Russell lost the Belgian GP despite finishing first, because his car was disqualified for being underweight after the race. Coulthard also mentioned an example from three years ago when Esteban Ocon, driving for Alpine, unexpectedly won the Hungarian Grand Prix. Therefore, DC reckoned there can be more winners this season due to such uncertainties.
I think there's going to be other guys that maybe get the lucky win. We've seen it with Alpine three years ago with [Esteban] Ocon in Hungary.David Coulthard stated.
Certainly, David Coulthard believed there’s more to expect from the last 10 rounds and that it will be very exciting to watch. Fans are excited to witness the final part of the season. They hope Perez comes back from the problems and issues he has been facing lately.
