Christijan Albers believes Red Bull could have an extremely tough season in 2025 if they bring in a particular driver from its junior team.

Max Verstappen has, over the years, had several teammates in Formula 1. One by one, they all perished while finding it difficult to match the might of Verstappen behind the wheel of a Red Bull challenger.

With Sergio Perez also potentially on the way out, the Ex-F1 driver Christijan Albers has come up with a name that could replace him. However, he has also warned Red Bull that the move could also backfire given the similarities to Max Verstappen.

Albers believes that bringing in RB driver Liam Lawson alongside Verstappen could create problems for the Christian Horner-led team.

I am very excited about Lawson, I think he should get that chance. I see some traits that he is not really impressed by other people. So he goes a bit towards Verstappen. They both have a bit of a lack of it. When you have two of those, it can be a difficult story. I wonder how much he can contain that when he drives next to Verstappen, that’s where my only doubt remains.

Lawson did well since taking the place of the axed Daniel Ricciardo in the recently concluded 2024 F1 season. Moreover, as per the rumors, he is in a prime position to amass the Red Bull drive alongside the four-time world champion. For some reason, Horner and Co. are moving away from Yuki Tsunoda who did a brilliant job as well.

Max Verstappen’s take on having a new teammate in 2025

The Red Bull seat is one of the most coveted ones on the F1 grid. Max Verstappen has been driving for the team since 2016 and from 2021 onwards, he has amassed four consecutive world championships.

In light of his stature within the Austrian team, he was asked regarding his views on having a new teammate. His short but crisp response was as follows:

I don’t know. This is up to the team.

Perez has been with the team since 2021. He did a decent job up until 2023, but during this year’s campaign, his performances dropped significantly in comparison to Verstappen. Moreover, the Mexican driver was one of the main reasons why Red Bull fell out of the hunt for the constructors’ championship.

Liam Lawson is very much in the good books of Red Bull chiefs, Helmut Marko and Christian Horner. They both applauded the New Zealander at certain points in the 2024 season. Considering the overall hype around Lawson, he could very well be seen driving alongside the Dutchman next year.
