Red Bull driver Max Verstappen handsomely won the 2024 Brazilian GP by a margin of over 19 seconds. Following the wet/tricky race, Lando Norris deemed Verstappen lucky which did not sit well with many in the sport.

The latest to join in on this line of thought is former racing driver Jeroen Bleekemolen. According to him, Max Verstappen‘s sensational win can’t be put down to luck given the chaos that ensued during the 71-lap event.

Moreover, has bashed Lando Norris for taking some of the shine off Verstappen’s victory with his lame antics.

I thought it was a bit lame that he threw it partly on luck at Verstappen and Red Bull. They made a conscious decision to continue driving until the red flag. And the chance that it [a red flag] was coming was really there.

The recent Interlagos event was full of chaos up and down the grid. Several crashes occurred during the event and it was kudos to all the drivers who managed to finish it unscathed. Moreover, while Norris blamed the timing of the safety car for ending up in P6, he himself made several errors. Verstappen, on the other hand, did not put a step wrong in the extremely tricky conditions.

While Bleekemolen has slammed Norris for his ‘lame’ antics post-Brazilian GP, he has also left no stone unturned in applauding Verstappen. The Dutchman won the race despite starting from way down in P17 on the grid.

Verstappen didn’t do that in one lap either. He was also behind Leclerc for a while. He stayed patient. He could have taken more risk, but he thought, it will come to me, calm down. And yes, when you panic, you see Verstappen in front of you. Then you think: How is this possible, how am I going to fix this? And if you want to recover too quickly, you can’t. That’s what happened with Norris.

The 2024 F1 season has only three Grand Prix remaining on the calendar. As things stand, Verstappen is 62 points ahead of Norris in the driver’s championship standings. The title is pretty much in the latter’s pocket unless something drastic happens in the upcoming races. Next up on the calendar is the sparkling Las Vegas Grand Prix.
