Lewis Hamilton has had a torrid time in 2024 despite amassing two Grand Prix wins. The Brit has not been able to put the W15 through the absolute wringer in qualifying and has easily proved second-best against his teammate George Russell.

Amidst the noise surrounding Lewis Hamilton‘s qualifying woes, Ex-F1 driver Jenson Button has come to the defense of the former. Button has emphasized that it is not easy going up against young drivers, especially in qualifying.

Hamilton has been racing in F1 since 2007 and is currently the second oldest (39) on the grid behind Fernando Alonso (43).

He’s almost 40 years old and maybe you do lose a tiny bit. You are racing against 20-year-old’s, your reactions however good they are, are still not going to be as good as a 20-year-old’s reactions. You can possibly lose that slight edge which wouldn’t show up in a race, but I think in qualifying that is where it does become a little bit more difficult.

Button via his comments, has brought into light the reflexes factor at an advanced age. In light of this, he has somewhat defended Hamilton over his issues against the 26-year-old George Russell this season. The latter leads the Mercedes qualifying stats 16-5 against the seven-time world champion.

Lewis Hamilton to produce his ‘best’ results in remaining races of 2024?

While Jenson Button has come to the defense of Lewis Hamilton, he has also backed the latter to bring out his absolute best in the remaining races of 2024. Hamilton has so far managed to amass 190 points in the fiercely contested drivers’ championship.

After a weekend like that, that’s what you remember, that’s the last thing you remember about Formula 1. I’m really happy that he’s here, and I’m sure we’ll see the best of Lewis.

The 2024 F1 season has only three Grand Prix remaining on the calendar. Hamilton is joining the Maranello-based Ferrari outfit next year and considering this, he would like to end his Mercedes chapter on a memorable note. Interestingly, the 39-year-old ended the recently concluded Las Vegas GP Free Practice two session in P1.
