Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have been the talk of the town during the ongoing 2024 F1 season. They have had brutal tussles on the racing track and while the campaign is in a short break, Ex-F1 driver Karun Chandhok has praised the Red Bull driver.

Max Verstappen and Lando Norris have both been penalized for their racing antics this year. However, Karun Chandhok feels that the former does it in a very intelligent way, exactly knowing how far he can push while staying within the parameters of the racing rules.

While talking about the same, the Ex-Red Bull racer turned pundit gave an extremely fascinating take.

Even in the wheel-to-wheel with Lando, he knew the rules. He knew exactly the rules, which is I have to be in front of the apex. If I’m in front of the apex, I’m in control of the outcome. Honestly for a driver to be racing 320 kilometers an hour and still be able to think of these scenarios, shows that he’s obviously very intelligent.

During the Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen was given a 20-second penalty for his on-track antics. But other than that, there haven’t been many instances where the 27-year-old has been smacked with strong penalties for his racing antics especially against title rival Lando Norris.

Max Verstappen has had a special racing-style since his go-kart days

While people have always had their opinions regarding Verstappen’s racing style, Chandhok has asserted that the former has followed a set pattern since his go-kart days. He recently highlighted a conversation of Max’s father Jos Verstappen.

Max, and I saw Jos saying this last week, has always raced this way since go-karts. Maybe that’s just the way he’s been trained so in his head that’s just normal. In his head, this is racing. This is the only way I know to go racing and why should I do any different. It’s just in his head and his style.

Verstappen has proved himself as the top dog in F1 since the start of the ground-effect era. During the ongoing campaign, he is on course to amass a fourth world championship equalling F1 legend Sebastian Vettel‘s Red Bull record.

The 27-year-old currently has a contract until the end of 2028 and after that, it is not a guarantee whether he would keep racing in F1. Verstappen has always been fascinated with the idea of trying his hands at other forms of racing.
