The Mercedes Formula 1 team has not had the best of times under the ongoing ground-effect era. From winning championships for fun to now having a hard time in the sport, the Brackley-based team has had some ride.

Lewis Hamilton is moving to Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season and in line with this, Ex-F1 driver Martin Donnelly has come up with some strong comments. The latter has somewhat bashed Mercedes for putting Hamilton through the infamous porpoising in the last three years.

The Mercedes challengers since 2022, have incurred severe porpoising that have caused problems Hamilton and George Russell.

Also for Lewis, especially after the three years with porpoising. At Interlagos, they were still suffering from that problem.

Donnelly via his comments, has sympathized with Hamilton and indirectly bashed the Toto Wolff-led Mercedes team. The last time the German outfit was fully able to challenge for any of the championships was back in 2021 during the turbo hybrid era.

Charles Leclerc ‘won’t be easy to beat’ at Ferrari

While Donnelly has ripped into Mercedes, he has also asserted that Lewis Hamilton could have a hard time at Ferrari next year. The former feels the seven-time world champion will have to be at his absolute A-game against teammate Charles Leclerc.

The Monegasque has been making his trade with the Italian outfit since 2019.

I don’t think Leclerc will be easy to beat. He is fast, I would say on his day he is as fast as Lewis. Hopefully, for them, we will see them at the front in terms of points in the Constructors’ Championship, along with Red Bull.

The Tifosi are eagerly looking forward to welcoming the seven-time world champion at Maranello. The buzz around the move is huge and Hamilton himself has many times indicated that he is also counting down the days.

However, from the basis of a total performance standpoint, Hamilton will have to pull up his socks and go gung-ho against Leclerc. Both drivers will eye next year’s world championship and things could get spicy between the two if Ferrari produces a championship-worthy car.
