Mercedes’ recent upturn in performance was expected to be visible at the 2024 US GP. The German carmaker had high hopes from Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to perform well in America. Hamilton performed decently during the sprint sessions but was unable to steer clear of the Q1 session of the US GP.

Lewis Hamilton‘s performance in the 2024 season improved massively after upgrades in his chassis. The Briton scored two highly coveted race wins, one of which was on his home soil. However, the US GP was a rude awakening, as Hamilton was knocked out of the Q1 qualifying session.

Lewis Hamilton could manage a 1:34:2s lap time, good enough to move up to P16 during the final fast lap of Q1. The 39-year-old, however, fell down the pecking order to P18 after the trailing drivers managed a better lap. As a result, the seven-time world champion will start way behind the leading pack and will have to work hard to move up the pecking order.

Fans distraught with Lewis Hamilton’s Q1 elimination at the US GP

In a recent tweet on X, multiple fans showcased their disappointment with Lewis Hamilton’s early elimination in America. One fan claimed that the seven-time world champion was ‘washed’ following woeful qualifying performances. Another fan joined the same train and noted that the Briton was ‘so finished’ in terms of performance.

Meanwhile, another fan claimed that it was unbelievable that Hamilton went from pole contention on Friday to a Q1 elimination. A fan added that the Briton’s qualifying performances were downright pathetic and ‘unreal’. Apart from this, one fan claimed that Mercedes was a very ‘unserious’ team, further taking a dig at the botched setup.

Mercedes was thought to gain control over their position in the constructors’ standing and potentially close in on Ferrari. However, such failing results from the team would surely be a nail in the coffin. Lewis Hamilton is highly unlikely to score massive points in his tussle against George Russell in the drivers’ standing.
