Aston Martin F1 driver, Fernando Alonso shared his thoughts on the team’s performance after being outqualified by the Alpines during qualifying in Barcelona. Alonso qualified in P11 after a disappointing home run for the Spaniard on Saturday.

The Alpine F1 has been a struggling outfit this season, with perhaps one of the most problematic cars on the grid. However, the French team has improved greatly since the Monaco Grand Prix and managed to qualify in P7 and P9 for the upcoming race in Barcelona.

Fernando Alonso has hence said that Alpine was once a team that struggled to keep up with the pace of Aston Martin but has gone on to outqualify them within a span of a few races. The two-time world champion exclaimed that the Silverstone-based team has not been on point with their upgrades and has rather begun more poorly than before.

Alpine was in front of us in Monaco, it was very close in Canada. And here, they are just half a tenth in front. They’re getting better and we are getting worse, probably. The combination of the two is not great.

The green-colored team endured a strong spell during the initial part of the 2023 season but has since witnessed an emphatic decline in their performances. The outfit will now look to maximize and perform to the best of their abilities during the Spanish Grand Prix in an attempt to score points.

Aston Martin claims Adrian Newey has a lot to work for if he joins the team

Well, you know, it's a super exciting factory. We have a young team, but a very exciting project. You know, wind tunnel, everything that you already know. That's very exciting about our team.

Adrian Newey is one of the most successful design engineers in the history of F1 and has won a staggering 13 drivers’ championships and 12 constructors’ championships across a few teams. The British engineer is currently rumored to be in talks with several teams across the grid for a move in 2025, with Aston Martin being one of them.

Lance Stroll said that it would be an honor to have someone as brilliant as Adrian Newey on the team in 2025, as it would offer a significant boost to their project. But despite these notions, the concrete idea of Newey’s whereabouts still remains a mystery as fresh rumors continue to brew along the tide of the British engineer.
