The 2025 season of Formula 1 seems very leveled at the forefront. Multiple teams seem ready to fight for race wins. Lando Norris recently highlighted that more than four teams could potentially win a race this season. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso took offense to Norris’ claim and hit back at the latter.
McLaren struggled for most of the ground-effect era but underwent a remarkable improvement after winning the 2024 Constructors’ Championship. Despite having the fastest chassis, Lando Norris assumed that more than four teams could win a race in the 2025 season following the pre-season test results.
Fernando Alonso recalled McLaren’s struggling days and noted that Norris believed only one team to win all the races back then. The Spaniard emphasized that having multiple race winners will be more difficult than expected. The Asturian insists that the top teams showcased great reliability with little to no retirements due to technical issues. As a result, the 43-year-old does not expect many teams to consistently contend for victories throughout the season.
When [Norris] was in the fifth or sixth team, he was sayinFg that only one team will win all the races. This is a normal, confident speech, It is good for him but I think it is going to be difficult. Reliability is so good these days; there are not many retirements, there are not many incidents. Strategies are quite defined.

Fernando Alonso declares McLaren has ‘advantage’ 2025
McLaren put forth some notable results in the pre-season test and seems ready to contend for both championships. Fernando Alonso highlights that the season is more open this year as compared to the ‘big advantage’ to Max Verstappen in the previous season. The 43-year-old speculates that Woking would start the season with an advantage over the rivals.

I think it’s more open this year, Last year it felt like Max had a big advantage in winter testing, and this year it seems that maybe McLaren has an advantage. I think it’s going to be more open and hopefully close until the end.
Fernando Alonso noted
The first race of the 2025 season is right around the corner as multiple teams rush into the final preparations. The final edition of the ground-effect era will remain highly enticing as multiple teams and drivers seem ready to fight for the title. McLaren remains the team to beat, while Ferrari and Red Bull aim to close the gap at the forefront.
