The ongoing F1 season is not panning out the way the Fernando Alonso-led Aston Martin team had envisioned. After eight rounds, the Silverstone-based team is currently the fifth-fastest outfit on the 2024 grid.

Aston Martin has huge expectations in Imola where they brought a huge upgrade package, but to their surprise, the package did not deliver. The AMR24 again looked off-color during the recent Monaco Grand Prix as Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished outside the point-scoring positions.

Ahead of the Canadian event, Alonso has admitted that the last two race weekends have been a huge wake-up call to his team.

These two weekends have been crucial, to understand our weaknesses, to understand the car, to improve... In difficulties you always draw more conclusions than in victories, in which all the problems with euphoria go more unnoticed. We are learning a lot for the rest of the year, 2025, 2026. These two races have been a big wake-up call and it will be very good for the team.
Fernando Alonso said in an interview with DAZN

The 42-year-old has made it known that the last two race weekends have helped Aston Martin understand the weakness of the AMR24. He feels that it is a good thing that the outfit is coming up against such challenges ahead of 2025 and 2026.

Aston Martin looking to ‘regroup’ after the challenging Monaco outing

While Alonso has deemed the last two races a wake-up call, Aston Martin’s Team Principal, Mike Krack has admitted that it is time for his team to properly regroup ahead of the Canadian event. During the 78-lap Monaco race, the AMR24 was not able to make much of an impression.

Stroll and Alonso managed a P11 and P14 finish in Monaco.

It’s been another tough day, compromised by qualifying outside of the points-scoring positions on Saturday. Now is the time to regroup as a team, focus on improvements, and come back stronger in Canada.
Mike Krack said in post race debrief

During the ongoing campaign, Aston Martin has so far managed to amass only 44 points. Mercedes is currently in fourth with 96 and considering this, the green-colored outfit really can’t afford any more slip-ups. The Canadian GP holds immense significance for Aston Martin in its pursuit of moving up in the 2024 Constructors Championship.
