Aston Martin Racing driver, Fernando Alonso is looking for a nice surprise for his home race in Barcelona after an unconvincing start to the year. Alonso has scored only 41 points this season and has been a bit up and down for Aston Martin on the grid.

The Silverstone-based team has also been miles away from the impressive standards that they set last season and currently stands fifth in the constructors championship. However, a glimmer of light for the English team was felt at the Canadian Grand Prix, in which they found pace despite the tricky conditions.

Fernando Alonso revealed that the team has been working hard on bringing upgrades to the car and is confident of performing well at the high-speed circuit of Barcelona. Alonso claimed that the goal would be to score good points with both cars at the Spanish GP.

Let's see, I think on paper we were happier with Montreal than Barcelona. We think that this track (Circuit Gilles Villeneuve) is a little bit better for us. But let's see if we have a nice surprise. I know the team is working also very hard to bring some new things for Barcelona hopefully. So yeah, it's gonna be a very interesting weekend.

Aston Martin has scored only 58 points this campaign with a chunk of performances coming from Fernando Alonso. They will now try to maximize their knowledge ahead of the Spanish GP and will look to chart points handsomely at the 4.657 km long circuit.

Lance Stroll opens up on struggles this season

Lance Stroll has shared his thoughts on the declining performance of Aston Martin this season. The Canadian driver, too, has struggled to find pace and grip across various circuits this campaign.

We know some of the mistakes that we've made, and now it's just a matter of sorting ourselves out and putting some new upgrades on the car going forward that address some of these issues that we know we have. But it's not an overnight fix.

Lance Stroll has been an inconsistent driver for Aston Martin. Moreover, the Canadian has again endured a rough spell this season, scoring only 19 points across nine races.

Aston Martin is reportedly aware of the mistakes within the car but is also sure of the fact that most of their issues are not an overnight fix. The team will now try to manage the issues the best they can and will hope for the best from their drivers to attain good results for the team in the upcoming events.
