Aston Martin F1 driver, Fernando Alonso has backed Max Verstappen to win this year’s driver’s championship, making it his fourth consecutive title triumph. Verstappen and Red Bull have not been as dominant as they were in the past season but continue to lead the title standings.
Ferrari and McLaren have been on good form this season and have managed to outpace Red Bull on some occasions. But, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, thinks that the title race will still be won by Red Bull, as they are much more precise and competitively knit than other teams.
Red Bull has won six out of nine races this season but has witnessed the fruitful development of Ferrari and McLaren, who appear to be worthy challengers to the Milton Keynes outfit. While others may argue that several teams have a chance in the title run having completed only a third of the season, Alonso is already convinced that it will be Max Verstappen to take home the title yet again.
There is no World Cup, this will be Max Verstappen's fourth title, no one has a choice. There will be more race winners : McLaren is strong, Ferrari in many races seems to also have the best car... But, throughout the 24 races, the ones who are going to make the least mistakes are Verstappen and Red Bull.Fernando Alonso said in an interview with EFE news agency
Fernando Alonso has not been in the same form for Aston Martin as he was last season and has so far managed to score a mere 41 points. The veteran hence concluded that while there might be various other race winners this season, the championship is one to be borne by Red Bull and Verstappen.
Mike Krack reveals issues regarding Aston Martin’s AMR24
Aston Martin team principal, Mike Krack has opened up on the changes in the AMR24 as compared to last year’s car, which have affected their performances. The Silverstone-based team has witnessed a severe decline in their performances as compared to 2023.
Well, the car is quite tough to drive, and we have not managed to cure that so far. So what we need is a car more benign, easier to extract potential, give them more confidence. And we had something like that in the past, and that was much, much easier for the drivers. If you lack confidence in your car, then you cannot go to the maximum. You have to take margin and you are much more exposed to these small gaps that we are having these days.Mike Krack via Motorsportsweek.com
During the nascent stages of the 2023 campaign, Aston Martin was one of the most competitive teams on the grid and was actively challenging a dominant Red Bull. However, this season, the English team currently stands fifth in the constructors’ championship with only 59 points, in an ever-declining trend for the team in green.
Mike Krack has elaborated that Aston Martin currently faces a situation of unpredictability amidst other concerns for the driver and the technicians, which is something that needs resolution quickly. The outfit now awaits the upcoming weekend in Barcelona, where they will gain a better understanding of their car and the conditions under which the AMR24 struggles.
