The Ferrari Formula 1 team has found itself in a bit of a pickle at the ongoing Qatar GP weekend. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are slated to start the race behind the papaya duo. Amidst this, the former has revealed how his team could end up with a kind of a ‘mission impossible’ task at the Abu Dhabi event.

Ferrari and McLaren are fighting tooth and nail in the 2024 Constructors Championship. The Maranello-based outfit is in second position with 584 points, whereas the papaya outfit is leading with 608.

But we should at least stay with them in the race, play with them with the strategy, the pit-stops, and see what will happen. It is not about third and fourth, it is about recovering points and we need to finish in front of them. Of course, it is good for us if they don’t win with a P1 and P2, but even if they finish P3 and P4 ahead of us, it is still going to be almost mission impossible in Abu Dhabi.

Sainz will start the 57-lap Qatar GP from seventh place on the grid, whereas Leclerc is slated to kick things off from P5. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are on the second row with a P3 and P4 starting position.

Charles Leclerc emphasizes ‘over-performing’ ahead of Qatar GP

While Carlos Sainz has given his take regarding Ferrari’s Constructors Championship chances, Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, wants to go gung-ho in the upcoming race. The latter genuinely feels that the only way to topple McLaren is by finishing ahead of them in the 57-lap race.

But we still had hope that we could turn the situation around because in the end, if we want to win the constructors’, we’ve got to finish in front [of McLaren]. We cannot afford to just to take the points available, we need to over-perform in order to target the constructors.

The SF-24 has proved a bit inconsistent over the last few races. On some occasions, it has performed really well, whereas on others, has struggled a bit in keeping pace with the other challengers toward the north end of the grid. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, the upcoming race could produce some serious action courtesy of the antics of Leclerc and Sainz.
