The 2025 Formula One season marked the Ferrari debut of Lewis Hamilton and to everyone’s surprise the Englishman produced the worst season of his racing career. He failed win a single race, a podium and even pole. The veteran finished P6 in the championship with just 156 points to his name and the noise around his drop in performance was significant.
Some in the racing community is expecting Ferrari to make a decision soon on whether to replace Lewis Hamilton and ex-Haas F1 team boss Guenther Steiner already knows the right guy to replace him. On his recent appearance on Red Flags podcast, the Austrian talked about Oliver Bearman and how the youngster has grown as racer, now making less mistakes and taking calculated risks.
[At the start of 2025 he was] fast, but making mistakes. But in the second half of the season, he got rid of them, just like a switch. Because in the first half of the season, I thought he was taking too much risk with the car he had, and therefore had a few offs. It wasn’t good. He got a lot of penalty points, and he still kept collecting them in the second half of the season.
Guenther Steiner said via Red Flags podcast (Via RN365).
The Englishman has already proven his worth with his string fights and overtaking prowess. Steiner knows Lewis Hamilton will leave Ferrari if he doesn’t get the car he needs to succeed in the 2026 season, the obvious candidate to replace him is Bearman. The young racer is part of the Maranello system, has previously raced for them substituting Carlos Sainz and is ready for the big move.
But it’s just like he didn’t make mistakes anymore, even in the races. He was fighting hard, and we all know he can overtake. I think, for him, the door should be open at Ferrari for ’27 because if Lewis hasn’t got the success he needs, I don’t think he continues. And then [Bearman] is the obvious candidate there for Ferrari — a guy who is well prepared for F1 and is performing. And also, he’s good with everything else around him.
Guenther Steiner added.
The stats from the 2025 season proves the points made by Guenther Steiner. Bearman finished the season with 41 points on sub-par Hass car, scoring the best Finish of P4 which is same as Hamilton. Him outscoring veteran teammate Estaban Ocon, 41 to 32, shows he is ready to be the future the sport.
Lewis Hamilton pledges his loyalty to Ferrari
Despite the challenging 2025 season, Lewis Hamilton isn’t ready to give up and is determined to prove himself. In a recent interview, the seven times champion asserted that he wants to conquer the mountains with Ferraro and is ready to keep going until he achieves that goal.

There are just many mountains that I have yet to conquer. Everything that I challenge myself to work towards, I truly believe I can get there. I haven’t climbed that mountain yet. If you don’t have any ‘yets’, then you’ve got nothing to will you forward. Even if you’ve been working at something for years and still don’t feel like you’re there, it’s okay. You keep going, and you will get there.
Lewis Hamilton said.
The champion driver will have a mark or break season in 2026, that is going to redefine his Formula One legacy. If he can’t get back to winning form and compete for the championship, he might need to look into completing his racing bucket list in other championships as the father time is catching up to him faster than ever.
