Lewis Hamilton‘s deal with Ferrari from the 2025 season onwards remains one of the most shocking news in Formula 1. Maranello released Carlos Sainz from the squad despite promising results from the Spaniard in the past. Crashgate mastermind Flavio Briatore took a dig at the Italian constructor for signing the 39-year-old amidst positive results from Sainz.

Lewis Hamilton has only raced for two constructors in the past before ending his 12-year-long partnership with Mercedes to join Ferrari. As a result, witnessing the Briton in a Red jumpsuit would be a ‘strange’ sight to witness at first. Flavio Briatore resonated with this fact and further questioned Ferrari’s decision to sign the 39-year-old. Briatore questioned the reason behind the Scuderia ‘tearing apart’ the great duo of Carlos Sainz and Leclerc.

It will be strange to see Lewis in a Ferrari, Of course I respect such decisions, but I wonder if it makes sense. I don’t understand why this great duo has been torn apart.

Flavio briatore told Sport Bild.

Both Hamilton and Sainz scored two race wins over the 2024 season with the latter taking the lead in the drivers’s standing. The Spaniard was sacked during the seemingly improving pace of Ferrari on the grid. The Briton on the other hand was outscored by his teammate George Russell for the second time since the latter’s entry. As a result, Briatore reckoned that if it were up to him, he wouldn’t have signed the seven-time world champion.

It is not up to me to pass judgment on that, but if I was the person in charge at Ferrari, I would not have contracted Hamilton.

Nigel Mansell labels Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move as the ‘most magical thing’

Lewis Hamilton’s switch in teams was heavily criticized by multiple individuals at first. However, Ex-F1 champion Nigel Mansell sided with Hamilton over the change in teams. The Briton reckoned that joining Ferrari was the ‘most magical’ thing that the 39-year-old could’ve done. Mansell further asserted that the two forces could easily fight for the championship in the coming season.

I think that what Lewis has done by deciding to join Ferrari is the most magical thing he could have done. The team is ultra-competitive. They could go for the championship next year.

Nigel Mansell told the Daily Mail.

Ferrari has already planned an ‘elastic’ testing schedule for Hamilton starting from late January. The team has also revealed the date for unveiling the SF-25 chassis to the public. Hence, the coming season would be highly exciting for the 39-year-old as he could finally contend for his record-breaking eighth championship win in Formula 1.
