Max Verstappen has been on an incredible run in the past two races. The four-time world champion has managed to take two consecutive wins with a car that was nowhere near McLaren earlier this year. Verstappen’s victories have now sparked debate whether the Dutchman can get back into the title fight. Now, F1 insider Gary Anderson has praised the Red Bull star’s comeback.

Since the start of the 2025 season, Max Verstappen was struggling against McLaren. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri simply had a significant pace advantage compared to the reigning world champion. Verstappen did take two wins early on, but fell off midseason. The past two races have become the turning point in the Dutchman’s campaign. Not only did he win in Baku last weekend, but also take a record-breaking victory at Monza.

Gary Anderson commented on whether Max Verstappen has a chance at winning the title once again. The former F1 technical guru claimed that such a possibility would’ve been nothing short of preposterous a few weeks ago. However, after the wins, Verstappen does have a chance. After the Azerbaijan GP, the Red Bull star is only 69 points behind Oscar Piastri with 7 races to go.

It would have seemed preposterous a few races ago but now he certainly has a chance.

Anderson pointed out that if Max Verstappen continues his winning streak in the next two races, things can become worse for the two McLarens. If Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri find themselves battling Ferrari and Mercedes, Verstappen can drastically reduce the gap in the standings.

If Verstappen wins the next two rounds and Norris and Piastri start mixing it with the Mercedes or Ferrari cars then the gap will reduce dramatically.

Gary Anderson explained

Max Verstappen the ‘best driver’ in F1

The Red Bull star has proved what he is capable of time and time again. In 2023, Max Verstappen went on to break several records in a historic championship campaign. Last season, Verstappen managed to defend the title with a car that seemed slower than McLaren for the majority of the season. Now, the 27-year-old is once again performing at his peak.

Gary Anderson asserted that Max Verstappen was arguably the best driver on the grid. Recalling the Azerbaijan GP, he pointed out that several drivers made some big errors in Baku. Charles Leclerc crashed out once, while Oscar Piastri had two crashes over the course of the weekend. On the other hand, Max Verstappen did not make even the smallest of errors en route to victory.

Verstappen is (questionably) the best driver on the grid and while so many others made mistakes in Baku in tough conditions, he was flawless. Give him even half a chance and he seems to take it.

Gary Anderson added

Certainly, Max Verstappen is going to push himself to the limit in the last seven races. The Dutchman has downplayed his championship prospects so far. However, it is clear that if Verstappen can continue this momentum, a fifth title would be right within his sights. The next couple of races can shake-up the championship scenario.
