George Russell will take on the lead role at Mercedes in the 2025 season alongside the debutant Kimi Antonelli. The 18-year-old will deem his rookie season with Brackley based team and learn from the Briton. However, even the 27-year-old is taking Italian lessons from the rookie, which, hilariously, is not going so well.
George Russell hasn’t felt the need to learn Italian in the past years as opposed to Lewis Hamilton who’s joining Ferrari this year. As Russell is preparing for the upcoming season with Kimi Antonelli, he is spending a lot of time with the rookie. Due to this, the two are also sharing many funny moments during the training.
Russell revealed that Antonelli was teaching him how to speak Italian. The Briton humorously pointed out that a person typically learns swear words first in a new language before anything else. Thus, the Italian was also teaching the 27-year-old some colorful language during their training sessions With FIA’s recent restriction on abusive language, the newly learned words are likely to remain behind closed curtains.
When english isn’t their first language, the first thing you get taught are the swear words, and the first Italian words he’s (Kimi) teaching me are the swear words.
George Russell told media ahead of the F175 launch event.

George Russell claims ‘no merit’ to swear during a press conference
The FIA recently provided clear regulations against swearing on the grid, penalizing repeat offenders with a race ban. George Russell believed that the whole swearing saga had gone too far. The 27-year-old insisted that the drivers needed to showcase their personality while racing on the grid. However, Russell accepted that there were no merits to swearing during a public appearance like a press conference.

As an individual it’s going quite far with everything, As drivers we do show personality but I do think there is merit and no need to swear in an environment like this [press conference].
George Russell noted
The 2025 season is set to be highly enticing as multiple teams and drivers set their eyes on the prize. The governing body has also implemented multiple rule changes to avoid the controversies of the 2024 season. Hence, time will tell about these new regulations sit with the drivers on the grid.
