Mercedes driver George Russell has dubbed McLaren’s Lando Norris as the primary threat to Max Verstappen in the title race. Norris currently stands second in the championship leaderboard, trailing Verstappen by 78 points.
Lando Norris has shown great pace and prowess on track since the start of the season. On the other hand, Max Verstappen has not been his true dominant self this year, despite amassing seven wins and nine podiums. The two promising drivers have gone head-to-head multiple times so far in 2024.
George Russell has praised Norris for his strong start to the current campaign. He then deemed the 24-year-old as the only one capable of defeating Verstappen in the championship chase.
Yeah, I think at the moment there's only one driver. It's probably Lando who can beat Max in the championship. They obviously had such an incredible start to the season.George Russell in a conversation with RTL
Norris, despite being on a faster spell, has failed to be as clinical as Verstappen during the crunch moments of the season. He will now have to make flawless efforts in order to catch the roaring Dutchman in the title race.
Damon Hill praises Mercedes for finding their form this season
Former F1 world champion Damon Hill has shared his thoughts on Mercedes’ resurgence this campaign. The Silver Arrows have amassed three victories in the last four races after a slow start to the 2024 season.
They've found something, haven't they. They've unlocked something, which has always been a theory that they thought something was missing, and they've found it, whatever it is and put themselves back in the frame.Damon Hill told RacingNews365
Damon Hill cited that the Brackley-based team finally found the missing element that was affecting their performances. Mercedes’ redemption can be greatly attributed to the upgrades installed in Montreal on the W15.
The Silver Arrows are currently fourth in the championship with 266 points to their name. They will look to keep up with their good form, eyeing a top-three finish in the intensely contested 2024 constructors championship.
