The British GP weekend is well underway. The Silverstone race is the home race of the majority of F1 teams. More notably, the track is home to the two Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton as well as McLaren’s Lando Norris. Russell expressed his happiness after clinching pole position for the first time at this circuit.

Russell managed to put in two stellar laps during the final session of Qualifying. Ultimately, George Russell secured pole, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton as the two Mercedes locked out the front row. Moreover, Lando Norris finished the session in third place. This has resulted in the first Top 3 British lock out since 1965.

George Russell highlighted that he had a good feeling with the Mercedes W15 during the session. The 26-year-old even claimed that the car came alive as he pushed himself to the limit to take pole position. Although, Russell pointed out that it would be difficult to fend off Lando Norris in Sunday’s race.

The British GP has always been one of the most popular races on the F1 calendar. There were concerns that ticket sales were below expectations for this year’s race. However, thousands of fans have come to Silverstone to cheer for the likes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Russell was thrilled to witness such enthusiasm from the home crowd. As cheers echoed across the circuit when the 26-year-old topped the timing sheets. Subsequently, the British driver affirmed that the fans gave immense energy to him this weekend, as he dedicated pole position to the crowd.

Certainly, George Russell would be hoping to convert the pole position into a race victory on Sunday. However, the 26-year-old will undoubtedly face a tough challenge from not just Lando Norris but his teammate Lewis Hamilton as the five red lights go out in Silverstone.
