The Red Bull F1 team has been having a torrid time at the pinnacle of motor racing. From being the most dominant force to now falling behind in the pecking order, with McLaren and Ferrari leading the charge, their downfall has been quite shocking.

Max Verstappen and team last won a Grand Prix in June and since then, it has proved extremely difficult for them to get the better of rivals. Their lackluster P6 and P8 finish in Monza is proof enough of how far back the team has fallen.

Seeing the struggles, the Ex-F1 driver Gerhard Berger has admitted all is not well within the Milton-Keynes-based team.

The superior package is no longer a superior package today, but perhaps in second or third place, clearly behind McLaren. If they are no longer able to pull the chestnuts out of the fire, then you know that the alarm bells must be going off and that they now simply need modifications that work.

The lights of Mercedes, Ferrari, and especially McLaren, have made huge steps in terms of their challenger development. While they have been on the rise, Red Bull has stayed pretty much at a certain level and this has hurt their championship standings. The Christian Horner-led team is only eight points ahead of McLaren heading to Baku.

Max Verstappen is an extremely ‘special figure’ in F1

While Gerhard Berger has asserted things are a bit chaotic within Red Bull, he also feels they still have their gem in the form of Max Verstappen with them. The Dutchman has been in red-hot form under the ground-effect era and is currently on a winning streak of three consecutive titles.

During the ongoing campaign, he has a golden chance of equalling Sebastian Vettel‘s four world championships record.

Max Verstappen is still a special figure in the business. He usually pulls the chestnuts out of the fire.

The 2024 F1 season is 16 rounds down and Verstappen has singlehandedly carried the Red Bull F1 team. However, he is no longer able to do so amidst the deteriorating performance output of the RB20.

Keeping everything in view, the 26-year-old could come in real danger of losing the driver’s championship to the high-flying Lando Norris. As things stand, the Brit is currently 62 points behind Verstappen with eight races remaining on the calendar.
