Max Verstappen has kept up with performances in the 2025 season despite running in a seemingly inferior chassis. The Dutchman was believed to be out of the championship contention because of the team’s deteriorating performances. However, Verstappen’s recent winning streak of two races that started at the Italian GP has seemed to bring him back in the mix for the title contention. As such, ex-F1 driver Giedo van der Garde has issued his support to the 27-year-old and his title chances this year.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris seemed to have an upper hand in the title battle against Max Verstappen, courtesy of their dominant challenger. However, Verstappen has showcased great resilience and has kept up with positive results in his inferior car. After returning from the summer break, the Dutchman seems even stronger in his performances, with the performance of his chassis seemingly improving.
Multiple people have now started believing that Max Verstappen is back in contention for the 2025 driver’s title. Even Giedo van der Garde supported his fellow Dutchman in the hunt for his fifth championship win this year. Van der Garde made a bold and shocking claim on Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris’ championship-winning chances towards the end of the year.
Giedo van der Garde did not mince his words while declaring that neither Oscar Piastri nor Lando Norris would become world champions in the 2025 season. The 40-year-old believed that Max Verstappen would be the one lifting the winning trophy by the end of the year. Moreover, the ex-F1 driver insisted that Verstappen’s car had started to improve a lot in terms of pace, which remained a highly motivating factor.
I think that neither Piastri nor Norris will become world champions, while I believe that Max will become one – his car has become much more competitive.

Giedo van der Garde predicts races that Max Verstappen will win
The 2025 season still has seven races to go, and Max Verstappen is trailing the championship leader, Oscar Piastri, by just 69 points. As such, Verstappen is likely to emerge victorious in many more coming races if Red Bull’s pace has really improved. However, the upcoming Singaporean GP isn’t the Dutchman’s most successful track as he has yet to win at the Marina Bay Circuit. Still, Giedo van der Garde believes that the 27-year-old will win many more races out of the seven pending.

Giedo van der Garde explained that in reality, there were just two races where the McLarens would be really strong as compared to Max Verstappen. The two races were the Singapore GP and the Qatar GP, both of which were races where Lando Norris is rather strong. But in the other races, van der Garde was ready to bet on the fact that Verstappen would win them, and ultimately the driver’s title.
If you think about it, in reality there are only two Grand Prix that are very good for McLaren. This is Singapore, where Lando Norris is really good, and Qatar. But the others? I bet Max will win.
Giedo van der Garde noted
Red Bull still has to cover massive ground in improvement against the rivals if they want to seriously contend for the driver’s title with Max Verstappen. Verstappen is not overconfident in his chances to emerge victorious in the title this year, and is aiming to take the season race by race. Now, time will tell about how the Dutchman fares against the massive hopes banked in him.
