Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has urged McLaren’s Lando Norris to be less harsh on himself. Norris has been on the receiving end of constant criticism despite putting in stellar runs this season.
Lando Norris has been on a greatly improved spell in 2024 as compared to the previous years. Norris is currently second in the championship, trailing by 78 points. The 24-year-old has, however, committed vital mistakes in crucial moments, which have cost him wins and podiums this campaign.
The British driver has been fairly transparent and critical of himself, which has been deemed a bit too much by Guenther Steiner. He has claimed that Norris could possibly harm himself by being overly critical of his mistakes.
I think Lando shouldn’t be as self-critical as he is, because I don’t think it helps him. Yes, you have to be critical, but you don’t have to apologize. We all make mistakes, just move on and continue. I hope Lando will come closer to saying things like: ‘Okay, I made a mistake. Next time I won’t do it again.’ But there’s no need to apologize every time , because the only person you’re harming is yourself. Of course, it also harms the team, but he’ll get through it because he’s very talented.Guenther Steiner via racingnews365
Steiner has asked Norris to be quick to own up to his mistakes while vouching to be careful thereafter. The 24-year-old will now look to start afresh after the summer break to put his mind to winning races for the remainder of 2024.
Zak Brown surprised with McLaren’s resurgence in 2024
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has heaped praise on his team in light of their recent performances this season. The Papayas have been an active challenger for the title, battling the competent likes of Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes.

I felt like we'd continue to close the gap. Did I think we would be here at the summer break, one race away from getting the lead? I thought we might get where we are now by 2025. I didn't think we would be where we are now in 2024. But I'm not complaining.Zak Brown said in an interview with BBC
Zak Brown appeared astonished by the Woking-based outfit’s uplifting run, deeming it to be beyond his expectations. Brown predicted that his team would reach its pinnacle in 2025 but is nothing but happy with their advanced developments.
The Papayas have finally shown a monumental rise to the top ranks for the first time in over 10 years. They will continue to work on their upgrades in hopes of winning the world championship title for the first time in over 26 years.
