Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has bashed McLaren for their approach to winning races this season. The Papayas were involved in a heated tussle during lap 1 of the Italian GP, which directly cost both their drivers the chance at the win.
McLaren has been one of the most impressive teams in terms of their pace this season. However, they have won only three out of the 16 possible races, despite having the fastest car on many occasions. Several esteemed personalities have criticized the tactics of the Woking-based team given their lack of solid results.
Guenther Steiner has therefore urged the team to set aside their esteemed ‘Papaya rules’ in order to win the constructors’ championship. Steiner deemed the Papayas rules as impractical and ineffective post McLaren’s slump in Monza.
We need to tell Zak, F*ck the Papaya rule, go and win the championship.Guenther Steiner said on the Red Flags Podcast
McLaren currently trails Red Bull by only eight points in the 2024 constructors’ championship. Contrary to this, they trail by a staggering 62 points in the drivers’ tussle, which clearly showcases the issues stated by Steiner.
McLaren deems Ferrari as a huge challenge post-Italian GP exploits
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has refused to discredit Ferrari in light of their recent upsurge in performances. The Maranello-based team pulled off a tactically brilliant one-stop strategy to claim their home win at Monza this past Sunday.
Even if it means that at these kinds of circuits, Ferrari will set a very, very serious challenge for the victory.Andrea Stella told the media including RacingNews365
Andrea Stella has stressed the Maranello-based team’s competitiveness around fast-paced circuits such as Monza. Stella further highlights the possibility of the team’s pace around Baku, where the Reds have previously been successful as well.
Ferrari has talked of their ambition to chase the Papayas in the constructor’s championship, despite trailing currently by 31 points. The Woking-based outfit will now have to remain vigilant in their efforts as Ferrari chases a first title victory since 2008.
