Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has backed his team to fight for the constructors’ championship after the victory at Monza. The Maranello-based team stands at 407 points and has amassed three wins so far this campaign.
On the other hand, McLaren has been on a roll this year in terms of their performances. The Papayas are currently in a prime position to overtake the leaders Red Bull to acclaim their first constructors’ title since 1997.
Carlos Sainz has praised the Maranello-based outfit for their recent developments in the SF-24. Sainz feels that his team can wholly challenge Woking-based McLaren at every single race until the end of the season.
Based on [the Italian GP], we were in a genuine race with the McLarens, and the tow made a bit of a difference. It is decisive for the constructors' because we were the team scoring the most points (with Ferrari taking 37 points to McLaren's 34). It means there is a big chance, not only to get more wins through the year but to also fight for the constructors'. I think if we manage to be quick at other tracks, it will be tight with McLaren and Red Bull.Carlos Sainz told the media including RacingNews365
The talented Spaniard departs for Williams Racing in 2025, having served selflessly for Ferrari since 2021. He will therefore look to give his best performances over the remaining races, hoping to secure the constructors’ title this year.
Carlos Sainz emphasizes not trusting anyone while racing in F1
McLaren driver Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were involved in an early tussle during the start of the Italian GP. Having started P1 and P2, respectively, Piastri unexpectedly overtook Norris on the first lap, which led to many criticizing the Australian for his move.
I haven’t seen it. When you’re behind the McLarens, they don’t know who’s who, so I don’t know how it worked, but it shows you that there are no friends here and you can’t trust anyone.Carlos Sainz told Marca
Oscar Piastri‘s move was a fair and clean one in terms of racing but was not necessarily the sportiest of tactics as he is Lando Norris‘ teammate. Sainz has thereafter cited the need for a driver to be aware and vigilant, keeping aside all relations on the track.
The altercation between the McLarens ultimately cost them the win at Monza. They will make use of the ongoing two-week break to assess and address issues within the team to perform better when F1 returns to action in Baku. For Ferrari, the target will be the same to finish as high as possible.
