Oscar Piastri couldn’t keep up with his positive performances and win his maiden driver’s title against Lando Norris. The Aussie led the title campaign for a majority of the season but still fell short at the end. Now, amid many people believing in Piastri’s chances to succeed in the coming season, ex-F1 team boss Guenther Steiner has sided with the former as well.
Recently, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown had reassured that Oscar Piastri would surely taste championship victory in the near future. Even Lando Norris raised surety over the fact that the Aussie was a future world champion. Piastri couldn’t quite perform well following his mysterious slump in pace, which ultimately led to his title loss.
Regardless, even Guenther Steiner is confident that Oscar Piastri will win the driver’s title in the near future. The Aussie just finished his third season in Formula 1 and still has a long, fruitful career ahead of him. Though Piastri was put at a disadvantage by McLaren on a few occasions, he can still succeed if he keeps a level head on track in the coming season.
Speaking on his future prospects, Guenther Steiner reckoned that Oscar Piastri needed to be in the right car at the right time to solidify his championship chances. However, from a talent point of view, Steiner raised no doubts over Piastri’s chances to achieve a title win in his career. The Aussie nearly finished in P2 in the 2025 title fight and hence would certainly have a great shot at contending for the title in 2026 as well.
He needs to be in the right car at the right time, but from a talent point of view, he can do it. I don’t doubt it.
Guenther Steiner said on the Red Flags podcast.
Oscar Piastri will win driver’s title in 2026 with ‘same scenario’ as 2025 season
The 2025 season was filled with massive ups and downs for Oscar Piastri. Despite dominating on track for a majority of the year, he still lost it at the end. Piastri lost out massively because of the team orders and giving up track positions to Lando Norris. Still, if the Aussie is presented with the same opportunity to win in the coming season, he will surely perform better this time around.

Guenther Steiner highlighted that Oscar Piastri would surely win the driver’s title next time around if he had the same scenario as the 2025 season. Steiner shed light on the fact that this year was only his third season in the pinnacle of motorsport, and he was already contending for the driver’s title. The Italian reflected that the 24-year-old did very well and was looking forward to a very successful career ahead.
If he has the same scenario he had this year, I think he will win it next time, because we should never forget it was only his second (actually third) season in Formula 1. He did very well.
Guenther Steiner noted.
Oscar Piastri has a great support system behind him with Mark Webber as his manager. The Aussie has to be careful so as not be the next Webber in Formula 1. For now, Piastri will enjoy the off-season with his family before returning to the grid in 2026. The 24-year-old will now be better prepared for the title challenge at McLaren after suffering from multiple unfortunate situations in the 2025 season.
