Former Haas boss, Guenther Steiner has made some bold claims about the title-winning chances of Red Bull with Sergio Perez as their second driver this year. Perez’s contract expires at the end of the season, with rumors of Red Bull having offered him a one-year deal to continue with the team.
Sergio Perez had convincingly started this season, scoring four podiums in five races. However, the Mexican driver has had a sharp dip in his form in the past three races, two of which he failed to qualify beyond Q2.
Guenther Steiner has hence urged the Milton-Keynes-based team to look for other drivers on the market who are better form than the 34-year-old driver. Steiner has been a harsh critic of Perez following his poor run of performances this season.
Red Bull is not winning the Constructors' Championship. They have a better set up with the drivers. I always say Checo is not a bad driver, it's just the others are more close together as drivers.Guenther Steiner said on The Red Flags Podcast
Sergio Perez now finds himself in a position to prove his worth to the Red Bull in hopes of a contract extension for next season. The coming races will test the skills of Checo as a driver and also as a teammate as he tries to score podiums and eye-catching wins.
Red Bull confident for tough Canada test amid kerb struggles
Red Bull is optimistic about bouncing back from their Monaco GP struggles in time for the Canadian Grand Prix. Three-time world champion, Max Verstappen will look to get back to winning ways after a difficult performance in Monaco.
We have to wait and see [how we'll perform in Canada], new surface as well I think, that might also give us some surprises. [We'll be weaker at] any track that is bumpy or has kerbs, or you have to ride a lot of kerbs, so the street circuits will probably be a little bit tricky. But hopefully by then we have a little bit of understanding of what is going on.Max Verstappen said ahead of the Canadian GP.
Red Bull has majorly faced issues around tracks with more bumps and kerbs in comparison to high-speed circuits this season. But with the introduction of a new surface in Montreal, Max Verstappen is optimistic about performing well despite the ample presence of kerbs and bumps around the track.
Red Bull heads into the Canadian Grand Prix desperately needing to find a win if they wish to stay ahead of rivals in the Championship tussle. The upcoming race in Montreal will test how the RB20 fares against the likes of Ferrari’s SF-24 and McLaren’s MCL38. This week’s event could prove to be extremely exciting with a three-way battle at the top.
