Since his streak of podiums during the initial few races, Sergio Perez has been in abysmal form. Red Bull even offered him an extension mid-way through his slump, but it was for no good. His performances have plummeted and have caused fans to urge the team to sack the Mexican. On the other hand, Guenther Steiner revealed how the 34-year-old’s matter is complex and reckoned that he would not be getting out of his subpar form anytime soon.
Red Bull brought in Sergio Perez to end its second driver woes in 2021. Initially, the Mexican performed as anticipated, but his performances soon started to dip in the 2023 season. The former race winner started the season with high ambitions of taking the title fight to Max Verstappen but has been fighting with backmarkers ever since.
This weird situation has left the Milton Keynes-based squad in a troubling championship fight. However, the team has affirmed their faith in him by admitting that Perez would continue his rut for quite a bit longer.
I don't think he can get out of this hole, but we were proven wrong by what we were thinking - 'he's not around anymore after summer break' and he still is, but I wish him all the best, I don't wish him bad because I respect him as a driver.Guenther Steiner said in an interview with RacingNews365
Regardless, Guenther Steiner deemed this attempt to go in vain as he asserted that Perez’s woes were driver-based. However, he hoped for the Mexican to prove the rumors false again and earn his position in the championship.
Guenther Steiner discards claims of Red Bull sabotaging Sergio Perez
The former six-time race winner had been a revered driver on the grid for a decade. However, his sudden slump was not anticipated by anyone causing conspiracy theories to develop around the paddock regarding Red Bull sabotaging him.

On the other hand, Steiner dismissed such rumors and deemed them to be false.
If there is an upgrade, which one driver gets, it's clearly communicated. You cannot hold it away from them. It's not the old days. It's very transparent in every team, I would say, because they're all now well-established teams and they're doing all a good job. So there is nothing there.Guenther Steiner said in an interview with RacingNews365
The Italian-American explained that in the contemporary world of F1, teams cannot hide upgrades from one side of the garage to the other. Transparency has become a vital part of the championship and thus, such speculations are entirely false.
Despite the team affirming that Perez would stay for longer, there is no guarantee that his tenure would be respected if McLaren takes the spot of Red Bull in the championship order. So, the next few races would be utterly important for the Mexican to save his dwindling F1 career.
