Isack Hadjar Exposes His Key Plan to Break Max Verstappen’s Team-Mate Curse

In the words of Sergio Perez, the worst job a driver can have in Formula One is becoming the teammate of Max Verstappen. From his second year in the sport, the Dutchman has been dominating his Red Bull Racing teammates, humbling them by outperforming them in every aspect of the weekend.

The difference in pace between Max Verstappen and his teammates makes it the most volatile seat in the garage, as the likes of Piere Gasly, Alex Albon, Sergio Perez, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda got fired over the years. This has made fans call it the Verstappen teammate curse and some expect Isack Hadjar to be next victim, as he is set to make his debut for the Austrian team next year.

The youngster though seems to have a clear plan to end this curse for good and prove his worth to the rest of grid. He pointed out that the key to ending the curse is to be unbelievably quick on the track and work well with his team, just like Verstappen. This demands hard work on both the mental and physical side of racing to succeed with the Austrian team.

Yeah, I am. That’s why I have this approach. The key is to be unbelievably quick, good outside the car, working with the boys. That’s the only way you’re going to get there. It’s not a specifically mental approach. You need to get the job done as well on the track.

In the same conversation, the Frenchman also shared how he was learning from Max Verstappen thought out the 2025 season on how to become better. He used every opportunity he got during the driver’s parade, and other occasions to talk to the Dutchman and take advantage of the veteran’s openness.

Especially on the technical aspect, I would see him for like five minutes at the driver’s parade and I have questions. He answers it, he is very open about that. There’s a lot to take, and that’s why I’m also using that from him.

In the same conversation, the star driver shared his thoughts on how his hard work earned him the Red Bull seat. He admitted that he is ready for the change to new team and can’t wait for the opportunity make his debut for the Austrian’s.

To get to Red Bull, I had to do my best here. There wasn’t much attention paid to what the big boys were doing. But obviously the focus point is changing and I can’t wait to get to Milton Keynes and start working with the guys through January and February.

The new chapter of Hadjar’s life is going to the toughest challenge off the youngsters’ racing career as he will be driving a car that is more suited for his teammate and a team that was built around Verstappen. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the upcoming 2026 season.
