Adrian Newey made headlines after announcing his exit from Red Bull after two decades in May this year. Multiple teams including Ferrari were keen on signing the aero-genius. However, it was Aston Martin that managed to acquire Newey’s services. Now, former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve has highlighted how the Briton can help the Silverstone-based squad achieve success in the sport.

Villeneuve claimed that Adrian Newey is undoubtedly the greatest designer in the history of motorsport. The Canadian pointed out that the 65-year-old has achieved incredible results in his F1 career including title victories with McLaren and Red Bull. Newey even won the championship during his tenure at Williams Racing.

Newey is the number one designer in racing history, from winning teams, such as McLaren and Red Bull.

However, Jacques Villeneuve asserted that the aero-genius now faces a new challenge with Aston Martin. Newey will now need to work with a team stuck in the F1 midfield and make it a front-runner. The Silverstone-based squad now has a state-of-the-art factory with virtually limitless resources of billionaire Lawrence Stroll. As such, Adrian Newey has everything he needs to turn the British team into a championship-winning force.

This is a great challenge for him. They built an incredible factory and money is not the limit for this team.

Jacques Villeneuve claims Fernando Alonso to get ‘energy’ from Adrian Newey’s arrival

Fernando Alonso has raced for Aston Martin since 2023. The Spanish driver had a good run of podiums early last year but has struggled this season due to an uncompetitive car. As such, Villeneuve emphasized that Newey’s arrival at Aston Martin will motivate the two-time world champion to stay with the team for the foreseeable future. Although, the Canadian was skeptical if the Aston Martin star would be able to reap the benefits of Newey’s work.

This will give Alonso energy and the push to continue, it is a long term project, I’m not sure Alonso will benefit.

Jacques Villeneuve insisted

Certainly, Adrian Newey will need to meet high expectations once he starts working for Aston Martin next season. The aero-genius must prove himself once again as he faces a new challenge in Formula 1’s new era. Fans would be waiting to see what Newey has in store for his first design at Silverstone.
